Your Next Step

The job guides emphasis. Your source resume and confirmed information control what the finished page may say.

Step One: Bring Your Resume And Job

Open Resume Builder, attach your current PDF or DOCX and add the description for the job you want. If you came from Saved Jobs, review the carried-over description against the original posting. A complete Career Profile can add context, but you can start with the resume you already have.

Your original file is processed in your browser session, not stored as a raw file in your account. Review extracted text and career facts before relying on them. UC Berkeley advises connecting descriptions of your experience to the position and keeping them concise.

Step Two: Choose Your Review Mode

Choose Build Automatically to assemble a page from supported source information and confirmed Career Profile evidence. Choose Review Changes to accept or keep individual suggestions. Both modes prepare a one-page result and lead to a final review. The mode controls how much you decide during drafting, not whether you inspect the finished document.

A fictional example: a student has described organizing interview notes for a class project. The target role values customer research. A clearer bullet can name the note synthesis already documented, but it cannot add an invented sales result, title or percentage.

Step Three: Check The Finished Page

Read the final preview from top to bottom. Confirm your identity, dates, role titles, contributions and any numbers against your own source. Check the wording changes made to fit one page. A supported one-page PDF may retain measured fonts and positions; unsupported PDFs and DOCX use the disclosed rebuilt layout.

If wording cannot fit safely, the builder may keep original text and explain why. If PDF preparation fails, use Try Preparing PDF Again. If the exact source layout cannot be edited, review the offered rebuilt layout. A failed download can be retried or saved through the browser PDF view. Read the final preview before using the file.

If Resume Structure Needs Review appears, check Current Text and start a new review with a file whose structure can be recovered. The current review decisions remain available. The message is a specific source-file problem, not a request to keep clicking Download PDF.

Step Four: Return To The Saved Review

My Resumes holds saved reviews by opportunity. When you return, check which posting and decisions belong to the version you are editing. A different job may call for different emphasis, so start a separate review when the target changes.

If a later source-format PDF export needs the original file after your browser session ended, reattach that same file. Your review decisions can remain saved even though the raw file bytes are not stored in your account.
